30 Mar Annashae Celebrates Our Medical Heroes On National Doctor’s Day
National Doctor’s Day (March 30) is held annually to acknowledge and celebrate the exceptional work done by physicians across the country.
It’s the day to honor the dedicated medical professionals who are there for their patients 365 days a year; the physicians who worked on the front lines during the COVID-19 pandemic; and the GPs and specialists who always put their patients first while pursuing the highest levels of care. In every city and hospital, in our military, and in our rural communities, doctors continue to provide better healthcare for their patients.
At Annashae, we join in thanking these healthcare providers for their achievements and strong commitment to their profession and patient health.
The History Of National Doctor’s Day
The first National Doctor’s Day observance was held on March 30, 1933, by the Barrow County Alliance, in Winder, Georgia. The idea of setting aside a day to honor physicians was conceived by Eudora Brown Almond, wife of Dr. Charles B. Almond, and the recognition occurred on the anniversary of the first administration of anesthesia by Dr. Crawford W. Long in Jefferson, Georgia, in 1842.
On March 30, 1958, a Resolution Commemorating Doctors’ Day was adopted by the United States House of Representatives. Following overwhelming approval by the United States Senate and the House of Representatives, President George Bush signed S.J. RES. #366 (which became Public Law 101-473) on October 30, 1990, designating March 30 as “National Doctor’s Day”.
Dedicated To Improving The Lives Of Others
Physicians dedicate their careers to improving patient health and often work long, hard hours. This fact was never demonstrated more clearly than during the COVID pandemic where doctors served in the front lines to provide the highest levels of patient care during very stressful circumstances. Helping patients meet their healthcare goals in complex and challenging times makes a physician’s commitment even more valuable.
The enactment of National Doctor’s Day enables the citizens of the United States to publicly show appreciation for the role of physicians in caring for the sick, advancing medical knowledge, and promoting good health.
