This Veterans Day We Honor Those Who’ve Proudly Served Our Nation

Every year, Veterans Day gives us a great opportunity to thank all of those who have served so selflessly and courageously in the U.S. Armed Forces during times of war and times of peace.

At Annashae, we acknowledge and appreciate the many sacrifices our men and women of the Armed Forces have achieved in the service of our country. It is this “service” to the nation that never ends and we’re better because of it. Every day, veterans are making a difference in our country and around the world – whether in uniform or in government or private business.

We’re proud of the many veterans who have chosen Annashae to help them achieve their career goals – it’s truly an honor and a privilege.

The Origins of Veteran’s Day

On November 11, 1918 (the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month) World War I – “The War to End All Wars” was officially declared over. The day became known as “Armistice Day” – which officially received its name in America in 1926 through a Congressional resolution. It became a national holiday 12 years later by similar Congressional action.

The first celebration using the term “Veterans Day” occurred in Birmingham, Alabama, in 1947. Raymond Weeks, a World War II veteran, organized “National Veterans Day,” which included a parade and other festivities, to honor all veterans.

The event was held on November 11, which was still designated as Armistice Day. Later, U.S. Representative Edward Rees of Kansas proposed a bill that would change Armistice Day to Veterans Day. In 1954, Congress passed the bill which President Eisenhower signed proclaiming November 11 as Veterans Day.

Sixty-eight years later, Veterans Day continues to be observed on November 11, regardless of what day of the week on which it falls. This observance not only preserves the historical significance of the date but helps focus attention on the important purpose of Veterans Day: A national celebration to honor America’s veterans for their patriotism, love of country, and willingness to serve and sacrifice for the common good.
